"Parks Are The Foundation For Strong Communities"
"Parks Are The Foundation For Strong Communities"
I’m originally from the mid-west, but came looking for the "California Dream" at the age of 19, and landed in Los Angeles. With the sole responsibility of taking care of my one year old daughter, Misty, I quickly adapted to finding a way to make a better living for the two of us. While working and going to school for a year, I was able to earn a license in Cosmetology. My first job was in Beverly Hills, which was a very coveted location at that time in the hair world. My clientele grew quickly, and within a year, I had started my own freelance business, traveling all over California. A large portion of my clients were in the film and music business locally, but I worked with others as far as Tokyo! My schedule afforded me time with my daughter, and allowed me to grow my business on my terms. For over three decades, I continued this career. I learned invaluable skills dealing with relationships, business, and most of all integrity. I was regarded as a skilled professional in my trade, while being equally respected and trusted in clients’ homes and personal lives.
In 1995 I married my husband, David and we have lived in Camarillo with our son, Noah for 17 years. We have three grandchildren, Haze, Phoenix, and Saylor Martin. For the past few years, I’ve had fun being a freelance project manager, working on interior and exterior design. My community work has consisted of support for our local police and fire department through community appreciation events. Annually I organized gift drives and donations for our local animal shelter, RAIN Communities (transitional living center) in Camarillo, and We Care packages For The Troops. I am a member of HJTA and the VC Taxpayers Association. I’m also a member and attend monthly meetings for VC CoLAB, a non profit organization of agriculture and business professionals, established to promote sensible and rational government in VC.
My strongest skill sets are listening, problem solving and finding ways to work realistically within a balanced budget. I am people oriented and communicate well with others. If you’d like a brief synopsis of my goals for PVRPD they are listed under “My Top Priorities”. Thank you for your time and consideration. I humbly ask for your vote by Nov 5th.
"I'm running to keep our parks safe and beautiful, and to make sure our recreational programs support our entire community. As your Director, I will make decisions based on the most cost-effective use of taxpayer funds."
When Elected I will do everything I can to stop wasteful spending and get the board refocused on keeping our parks attractive and affordable for our community service groups.
Our youth sports groups recognize and appreciate our top notch sports fields. Their cooperation in caring for them and keeping them looking great are reasons to oppose any increased fees.
I will nurture our partnership with the City to build or expand our Community Center, so that all age groups, seniors through youth, will be able to enjoy inside activities. I realize the growing pickleball community's short and long term needs, and look forward to advocating on their behalf.
Everyone deserves to be free of all threatening situations. Through proper maintenance and diligence, we will continue to provide safe environments for our communities.
Lifelong memories and bonds are strengthened when families feel supported through sports and play. I will advocate on behalf of families, that our parks and programs reflect healthy attitudes and lifestyles.
In collaboration with the City and Health Care District, explore opportunities to improve the overall well-being and quality of life for all Camarillo residents.
